Movie Night is finally here! WOOHOOO! Hope you are all excited to party it up with great fellowship and good food.   Use this time to take a break from all the hard work we’ve been doing during our rehearsals.
Just a few reminders for tomorrow, February 23, 2013
  • Doors open at 5:30pm.
  • Bring your ID! It’s the only way to get in.
  • Pack a JACKET!
  • Bring something to sit on (mats, blankets, etc.)
Don’t worry so much about the weather. If it does not look safe to be outside, we do have an alternate plan.

Symphony Orchestra Carnegie Trip Info

Hey SO!!!! The trip is just around the corner!!! Woo Hooooo!!!!  Here is some info and reminders:

  1. Be sure to check the board for your name on the program. Need to be sure that the spelling is correct
  2. Sign up for Rooming is on Wed.  Feb. 13 (5 min after 2nd bell)
  • Boys: 11 Quads / 2 Triples
  • Girls: 9 Quads / 2 Triples

3.  Go to the website and fill out the form for the instrument information.

4.  Don’t forget that we have full orchestra on Wed. Be seated by 5:50pm. We will be pushing extra hard from here on so be ready. YOU CAN DO IT!!! p(^-^)q

The trip is coming up and we need to collect some information on the instruments you are intending to bring to New York.  Please take a moment to fill out this form.  Please make sure you follow all directions and fill it out accurately.  Also please look below for the following notes:

  • Please fill out all student information (no blanks).
  • ALL members must fill out a form including those using personal instruments
  • Please fill out the rest of the information to the best of your knowledge.
  • For the instrument section – the Country of Origin, Costs, and Make Number are optional if you do not know the information.
  • Please fill out a form for each instrument case that you will bring on the trip
  • Clarinets with a double case: fill out the secondary instrument section (you do not need to fill out two separate forms)
  • String Basses and Percussion need not fill out the instrument information section (Percussion: only fill out one form)

If there are any questions, please see Mr. Kubota.  Please have the form filled/submitted by February 15th.

Music Dept End of the Year BANQUET DONATIONS


The end of the year is fast approaching and with it comes our annual Music Department Banquet.  This occasion celebrates the hard work and dedication of our music department students.  Our goal is to make this event as enjoyable and fun for the students as possible. However, it is very difficult to meet this goal due to the current economic situation, so we would like to ask for donations, which may consist of (but are not limited to) monetary donations, gift cards, snacks, and prizes. Any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Solo and Ensemble Resistration

Hey gang! It’s that time again…..SOLO AND ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL!!! Woo Hooo!!!

Registration forms are on the front piano.  Cost for entries are as follows:

Grade 1-2: $10 per person
Grade 3-4: $12 per person
Grade 5-6: $15 per person

All forms (entry and liability release) + money will be due no later than  Friday January 11.  If you need music please see any of the music directors for guidance.

Hey Symphony Strings!!! Happy New Year to all!!! I hope that you had a great break! Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday! Road to Carnegie has begun!!! Woo Hoooo!

Happy New Year

Hey gang! Just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year as we head on into 2013. Before 12am take time to think about the amazing things that we shared together in 2012. It was sure a great one. Let’s look forward to much happiness together as we continue our journey together into more greatness.

Winter Concert Ticket Sales Starts Tomorrow

Winter Concert Ticket Sales are on Tuesday Nov. 20 and Wed. Nov. 21. Tickets go on sale 5 min after 2nd lunch bell.  You will get a number in line. please respect each other and wait your turn like all. Thanks!

Nov. 20 (Tues): Booster Member paid students only (3 ticket maximum)
Nov. 21: (Wed): All members (No Maximum)

Cost: $15 General Admission. (Children Under 3 y/o free)

All adults that are planning to come to purchase ticket will be required to check in to the school and will be expected to stand in line. NO SPECIAL PRIVILEGES! No reserves by phone taken.

Music Dept. Picture Taking

Hey all you music dept. folks! Hope your weekend is going well! Just a kind reminder to you all that picture taking is on Monday (11/19) Don’t forget your uniform and be sure that it is to your requirement specifications.

Picture taking begins at 2:15. Concert Band….you are up first so don’t waste any time!!!


  1. Be ready at least two groups before. (Check the schedules posted)
  2. Check your uniform to be sure it’s at regulation. (You will be pulled if not)
  3. Line up your groups in order of tallest to least tallest
  4. Be ready to enter the F101 entrance closest to the women’s bathroom.
  5. Follow the directions of photographers and instructors
  6. Pack up all of your things before you leave
  7. Seniors: Proceed to the library to take your senior shot. (NOT OPTIONAL)

Disclaimer: Please don’t leave any valuables lying around as we have had incidents in the past. Always remember…if you don’t want to be victimized then don’t set yourself up to be a victim. Keep all of your valuables with you at all times..or better yet….leave them at home.

Wednesday Rehearsal

Hey gang! I hope that you had a great day off! You sure earned it. Tomorrow is another day and another step towards getting our show stronger for the big weekend of shows. Just few reminder to you:

  • Rainbow Ticket $ and unsold tickets are due tomorrow. Please see Kara and Kenji to get more tickets if needed.
  • Woodwinds/Percussion: Your charts are due. Check the entry below for specifics
  • Brass: Please pick up your charts before your sectional
  • Woodwinds and Brass: Sectionals begin at 4:15.
  • Bring your jackets and ponchos in case it rains. The weather has been getting colder so appropriate attire is a necessity.
  • Have lot’s of water on hand to keep yourself hydrated.

Kamehameha T of B Info

Hey gang! well our big day has arrived! Woooo Hoooo! Your rehearsals have been going really well and I truly feel that you are ready for this challenge!

Please don’t be late today. Guard begins at 12:00pm and full band should be ready no later than 12:50pm. Please leave your homes earlier so that you don’t arrive late. We are on a very tight schedule!

Please be sure to have your water jugs for practice. Also bring your jackets/ponchos in case of rain.

Pack extra clothes just in case we run into rain. Do not wear your uniforms to practice. Pack them neatly in a handbag. You will be able to change after our run through. Extra Clothes includes extra shirt, socks, undergarments, etc. A towel is also good idea.

ALSO…please be sure to eat before coming to practice today!!! There will be no lunch break. AGAIN…EAT BEFORE YOU COME TO PRACTICE!!!

MB Chart Check

Hi everyone! It’s Chart Check Time!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!Here is the information on the chart check schedule and procedure.

How do you turn it in:
1) All charts must be in a folder or be bound together
2) Charts must be in order by 1st through 5th Movements
3) The exit chart page is required
4) All pages must have your position highlighted or circled
5) All pages must have your position(coordinate) marked (ie: Side B, 4 steps below front hash, 3 steps from the 45 yd line)
6) Be sure your name is on every page!!!!
7) You need not mark your spots on at Subset (ex: Page 7A) if your directions do not pertain to that set.

Charts are to be turned in after rehearsal on the required day. Your charts will be available for pick up at the following rehearsal.  See the schedule below.

Aloha Stadium Practice

Hi gang! Hope your weekend in going good so far. The show is getting better as we go through the grueling process of cleaning the show. Practice and positive thoughts will get us through his toughest part four season. You can do it!!!

We are so lucky to have the opportunity to practice in the Aloha Stadium on Sunday. Here are a few reminders for you. It will be a tough day of practice so please get enough rest so that you can be at your best. Also…don’t forget to stretch and drink lots of water.

Please be sure to eat lunch before you arrive. Heads up guard…eat before you come..there will be no lunch break.
11:30 – pit start loading
12:00 – guard rehearsal (warm up)
12:15-12:30 – everyone start loading
12:55 – take roll
6:00 – Return to Moanalua HS

Things that you need for rehearsal:

  • water jug
  • charts
  • Wear a White T-Shirt or Top
  • performance shoes
  • practice hat and sunglasses to protect you from sun.
  • performance hat with head dress (Winds and Perc)
  • jacket/poncho in case of rain
  • all instruments and equipment of course.

Hat for Winds and Perc

Please don’t forget that you will need a hat for today’s rehearsal. We will be learning the exit for our show. A baseball style hat is best since it has a firm brim that doesn’t go around the entire hat. In other words…much like the hat that you wear.

Also…if you haven’t yet studied your comments and video, please do so so that you can make corrections and have a better idea of how you can contribute better to the show and of course your family!

Menehune Classic Thank You!!!

What a night! The 10th Annual “Menehune” Classic was a tremendous success. Amazing music, spectacular pageantry, and great Hawaii weather made it a perfect evening. Special thanks to Wayne Sakamoto and Casey Jim for chairing the event together. You guys did a fantastic job as usual. Thank you also to the Music Boosters Assn. and the countless amount of parents, students, and friends that volunteered their time to organize and work so hard to help make this event possible. We here at the music department, are so blessed to have such dedicated, caring, and selfless people that do so much for the sake of the students of the music program. The relationship and camaraderie is truly one of a kind. I feel so blessed to be able to associate myself with such greatness. You are all simply the best there is!!!

I hope that you all had a good rest today! As the season of the Tribal Warriors moves into it’s final few weeks, I hope that you will be able to join us at our future performances so that you can see how much your commitment has serviced not only us at Moanalua, but all the hard working music students of our state.

It was especially great to see so many past students and parents celebrating together as FAMILY. It was definitely a tear jerking moment.

Thank you again to all for making our decade of the Menehune Classic a great event for all. I’m sure that the next decade awaits us with so much more to look forward to!
