Update 6/25

Hey there Moanalua HS “Menehune” Marching Band! Aside from our “situation”, I do hope that all of you are safe and healthy. I know that everyone is wondering about the Marching Band and the famous question….” when are we starting”?

We are getting closer to getting more information from the State about the approved guidelines for school activities. Please know that we are doing everything we can to get our much anticipated season going. However….it is ALWAYS the priority of our program that we proceed with your safety and best interest in mind. With that said, it is most important that we remain patient and continue to stay informed and prepared. Rushing things and asking people to make uninformed decisions for you is not in your best interest. I’m sure that your parents will agree.

As we prepare for your opening, we would like to announce that we will be postponing our Marching Band season start to July 13th. This will give all of us time to await directives and create the best learning environment for you. You can continue to refer to the same Marching Band Calendar as a guide. Refer to the attached files below. Please make special note that times and dates are subject to change as the State Guidelines and School Administrators directives come out.
As soon as we know…we will be sure to let you know.
For now:

  1. You may send in your uniform deposits. Please refer to the deposit refund procedures in case situations do not pan out favorably. Make a special note if you are paying via credit card online.
  2. Can you still sign up for the marching band? Absolutely! If you have friends that did not sign up for our season and still want to do it….let them know that they can still sign up. All links and forms are still active.

    Sign up link: https://forms.gle/wbAVSCnD1YxTedk8A

If you are getting this email then you have already signed up, you don’t have to sign up again.
  3. Gather all of your instrumental needs: Clean your mouthpieces, wash your swabs and cleaning rags, if you have old used reeds it is best to get rid of them and start fresh Sanitize neckstraps.
  4. Find a good and comfortable face mask that breaths well and is comfortable for you. I don’t know if these exist, but there are many different options that you can look into.
  5. As much as possible we want to be sure that you don’t have to share instruments. In the case that it is inevitable (ie: percussion) we will require you to use gloves.
  6. Start to get some exercise. Get your body ready for the physical demands of the marching band is very important. Walking or jogging in your neighborhood or in a safe place is great not just for the marching band but for your health.
  7. Do not live in fear. This pandemic does not care if you are scared. It is important to be SMART. Follow directions that have been recommended for your best interest:
  • Wear your face masks when you are out and about with other people around you.
  • Wash Your Hands/Use Hand Sanitizer
  • Be aware and respectful of social distancing
  • DO NOT share food and drinks directly
  • Eat properly. Drink a lot of water. Take vitamins. Keep your immune system strong.

Ok Marching Band and Guard!!!! Please continue to be safe and SMART. We must all remain vigilant if we want to get back to normalcy as fast as we can. Like we teach you in the music department….”Be the Best Person FOR the World.”Thank you so much again. We’ll be in touch real soon. Love ya all!!!!
